S.OR.N

proof of concept

An AI lamp that follows your hand (if holding a device with the pen cap on it) so that your work area is always lit.

I trained my robot lamp to recognize and object detect a pen cap I designed to solve the problem of shadows being casted from my hand on my working space while doing fine arts. The robot has an AI camera and follows the pen cap around.

TIME

2 Weeks

tools

Rhino8
Raspberry Pi 5
AI Camera Raspberry Pi + other hardware
Bambulab A1 Mini
Google Collab (training)
Roboflow (image annotating)

— process

Designed the pen cap, took videos of me drawing with it, separated the videos into frames, annotated them and trained the data.

To understand more about the form/function/base shapes, I looked at existing robot arm files online, printed one and learned how the pieces fit together and how the robot arm functions. Drew out the most important pieces that I would need and started modelling.

Did A LOT of 3D printing (fit tests) and model refining.

*** did not have enough time to fully debug my code, fix parts, have the light part work 100%, and figure out camera logistics in the 2 week time period of this project, however i will be continuing this project in 2026 and MANY changes will be made, stay tuned for updates :) ***
